The question of “why” has always intrigued me more than “what” or “how”. While “what” and “how” demonstrate a repeatable process, “why” reveals someone’s intentions and motivations. And let’s be honest, long after a person’s “how” has been exhausted, their “why” keeps them fighting for a cause. In the article below, GavinGoodrich explains why he fights for the Caldari Militia.
I was “born and raised” here. My first fleet included the late Steelcastles giving me an osprey, a skill book, a mission, and a place to call home within Caldari fleets. I was hooked. That was within the first three months of playing EVE.
…That was almost six years ago.
Since then I’ve had many adventures across EVE, but the most overall time I’ve spent in once place is Black Rise with Caldari. Typically it’s with just State Protectorate, as I prefer to work with everyone and not get too focused on corp/alliance activities. My allegiance is to the militia as a whole.
I’m a fan of the underdog, and despite Cal-Mil’s greater #’s, they’re typically an underdog in terms of fleet readiness. There’s potential for that to change though through the Zen-like patience of FC’s like Cyrus Mierre.
But the main reason I keep coming back to Cal-Mil are the people. People I’ve flown with for years. It’s always nice to get that “cheers” welcome when logging in or coming back after being somewhere else here in Cal-Mil. A lot’s changed since FW first came out, but the same people I’ve known for years are the reason I keep returning. They are why I fight.
