Faction Warfare Fitting Lab: Tor-Momentos

Sometimes there’s just something about the shine of an Amarrian hull that really gets you ready to beat the color into some ships. Pick up your favorite crayola folks, it’s time to use some “lazors”. In my natural style, I went with a delightful blend of dual rep and cap efficiency to bring a decadent palate of tackle, tank, and torture.

The Hull

Tormentor

Amarr Frigate bonuses (Per Level)

10% Reduction in Small Energy Turret activation cost. (This is a really helpful bonus with the setup for this ship, extending cap life by a noticable amount.)

5% bonus to Small Energy Turret Damage. (Damage bonus on the hull helps free up low slots for other aspects you may want to improve in your fit. Don’t be afraid to under-fit the DPS in the lows with a damage bonus on the hull.)

The Fit

[Tormentor, 1v1]

IFFA Compact Damage Control
Small Armor Repairer II
Small Ancillary Armor Repairer, Nanite Repair Paste
Heat Sink II

5MN Y-T8 Compact Microwarpdrive
Initiated Compact Warp Scrambler
Small Capacitor Booster II, Navy Cap Booster 400

Small Focused Pulse Laser II, Imperial Navy Multifrequency S
Small Focused Pulse Laser II, Imperial Navy Multifrequency S
Small Focused Pulse Laser II, Imperial Navy Multifrequency S

Small Anti-Explosive Pump I
Small Anti-Kinetic Pump I
Small Auxiliary Nano Pump I

Warrior II x2

Pros

  • 129.6 / 165.8 HP/s Tank (Dual rep is not something you find on most frigates that don’t have a strong natural resist, or a bonus on the hull. It’s often a nice way to tank your way through the fight rather then out-DPS it.)
  • 176 / 197 DPS (With decent projection from the drones and, if you’re addicted, some drop will handle the lack of a web nicely to apply all that DPS.)
  • Cap stable (with high skills at 6%, MWD off)

Cons

  • 2661 / 3801 m/s Speed ( This is a con because we have 2 rigs working against the speed of our hull, without them we would hit over 4k OH. However, due to the power restrictions of an MWD fit we had to plug resistance rather then more tank or DPS.)
  • No Web (This is huge for tracking, as everyone knows. However with dual rep you have to sometimes sacrifice that mid. We can make up for this by using keep at range and manual piloting up to lower transversal. Or you could also be a druggie and use Drop.)
  • Engagement range 3km – 14km (This is decent, however reaching 20km is very popular in energy weapon ships.)

How To Fly

There’s quite a bit to say about this Tormentor in terms of engagement. Speed is middle of the line, so don’t try to catch natural kiters. With 2 rigs working against you, it’s a job not easily managed. Going against a tracking enhanced AB ships are your biggest counter. Missiles are difficult but not hard to manage, but watch your range and missiles project better at farther ranges.

Micro manage your transversal with keep at range and manual piloting. Always overheat your ancillary rep and have fun.

Conclusion

I wanted to start putting out easier to afford ships that pilots can fly over and over again to find their niche in ship class. The Tormentor is a fun ship, and energy weapons are always a blast to watch pew their way into the enemy hull. Tweaking the fit for more tank is always a fun way to see what other trouble you can get into. AB fits are also a bit more manageable on DPS so try fitting some other mods and see what you like as well. Feel free to voice your findings and opinions on any aspect of the fit or your changes.
